In autumn 1999, Centex Homes committed $1 million to the National Housing Endowment (NHE), the philanthropic arm of the National Association of Home Builders, to fund financial-need scholarships for students studying residential construction at two- and four-year colleges across the country. Approximately 55 scholarships will be awarded during the next five years through the NHE. The annual scholarships, to average about $1,000 each, are designated to pay for books or tuition.
